Petals, shading structure
Metalco, 2020
Petals is part of Ombra in Città, a system of versatile micro-architectures, designed to recreate comfortable and social areas within the urban context. Designed to respond to functional, construction, and installation factors, they express, at the same time, a particular idea of comfort and architectural integration.

The shading structures thus become recognizable places, designed to be able to linger, wait, rest, meet, walk, work or….

Inspired by natural forms par excellence, these tree structures can be installed individually or aggregated, giving life to a real urban forest. For this reason, Petals is suitable to be placed in public areas such as parks, squares, or corporate environments.

The structure consists of a supporting column with three circular steel frames, arranged at different heights and equipped with aluminum sunscreen profiles.

The structure’s versatility starts from the study of overlapping shadows with different intensities. The petals, which can be adjusted during installation, offer maximum flexibility in positioning.

The overlapping play leads to a more natural perception of the shade. The shadow is not only functional, but pleasant, playful, dynamic, and variable because it’s rendered more or less intense depending on the petal’s arrangement.
