Tile, shading structure
Metalco, 2020
Tile is part of Ombra in Città, a system of versatile micro-architectures, designed to recreate comfortable and social areas within the urban context. Designed to respond to functional, construction, and installation factors, they express, at the same time, a particular idea of comfort and architectural integration.

The shading structures thus become recognizable places, designed to linger, wait, rest, meet, walk, work or…

The neutral and minimal aspect of Tile facilitates the integration into the urban context, without being overwhelming on existing buildings. At the same time, it does not give up its own identity, characterizing the areas in which it is located. The final perception is one of composed dynamism.

The structure is equipped with trapezoidal steel frames, with aluminum sunshade profiles. The frames are joined together by steel plates and can also be used to accommodate climbing plants.

The versatility of the structure starts from the study of a modular element, which can be oriented in four different angles. The combination of the modules can generate various spatial combinations, suitable for both linear paths and for shading more areas.

For Tile, a system designed to be in harmony between architecture and nature, a study was also carried out on the projecting shadows of the structure, assuming some textures that could generate different suggestions.
